How to Be Terrible at Networking (Mom Edition): Finding Connection in the Chaos

How to be terrible at networking…
(Mom Edition)

At work, I got this. Networking? No problem. Random strangers at a conference, party, grocery store line? Sure.

At school drop-off? Total kryptonite. I’m the mom with a sassy comment where everyone is like “hey that Kate, she’s kind of hilarious, but also where did she go?” who disappears five minutes later while the overachieving moms hand out homemade organic muffins and plan the school gala like it’s the Met Ball.

Playdates? Stressful. Field trip forms? Always late. Blue shirt day? Forgot. Meanwhile, these moms are leading committees, packing bento box lunches, and somehow still making it to Pilates.

The truth though? I’m completely intimidated. Half the time, I’m convinced I said something weird (mostly spot on here). The other half, I’m just hoping no one notices I’m winging it.

But even when I feel out of place, I will try. And sometimes, an awkward “hi” leads to a real connection, bonding over the absurdity of it all and tonight I made a new mom friend (well I don’t want to assume too much but it felt like a good chance!).

If you’re nailing it at work but the mom world feels impossible? Same. Let’s connect, store-bought snacks welcome.

I need part two of my Career Hacks & Snacks to be Mom Fails & Cocktails.
