No one wants to work hard anymore.

Try saying that to a retail manager.

I dare you.

Retail managers aren’t just hard workers, they are absolute badasses. They are running entire businesses, holding together understaffed teams, and making corporate’s ridiculous goals somehow happen. They are the glue, the engine, the disaster response team, all rolled into one.

Find me another role where someone is simultaneously:

  • A hiring manager, a trainer, an HR department, and a therapist.

  • A logistics expert handling inventory, shipping delays, and markdowns.

  • A customer service pro who can calm down a furious Karen and upsell her in the same breath.

A frontline leader dealing with theft, safety issues, and last-minute schedule changes all while covering a register.

They work weekends, nights, holidays. They deal with angry customers, impossible expectations, and zero recognition. They show up early, stay late, and get the job done, no matter what’s thrown at them.

And yet, these are the people so many companies overlook when hiring for leadership roles. So stop it. Stop ignoring an incredible workforce ready to crush it for you.

You want someone who knows how to work hard? Who can problem-solve, multitask, and actually lead under pressure?

Go hire a retail manager.

Then tell me again how “no one wants to work hard anymore.”
