Offering a BIG apology…
I would like to offer BIG apology to my previous coworkers:
While I wasn’t that person who microwaved fish in the group kitchen, I want to apologize and say thank you to all the people in all the offices and retail back rooms that ever worked with me.
Anyone who had to hear my top volume voice at varying stages of my career figuring out jobs I didn’t truly understand, departments I had just been introduced to and talk so very much for so very long in my loud and overly enthusiastic (but truly actually genuine) voice.
They had to hear me say the same things over and over about how much fun it is to work (insert company here) in this incredible (insert job here) for (insert manager and department here). Excited volume Kate is pretty intense.
If you’ve ever
1. Sat next to me or in a room anywhere near me while I am on the phone
2. Been in an interview, presentation, networking, coaching call with me. (Talked to me in general anywhere).
You will understand.
Thank you all who knew me before you could turn the volume down on your zoom/google chat and had to wear noise cancelling headphones in our HR areas. I salute you.
Thank you remote work for making it so that I only have to compete at top volume for “who is the loudest” and “highest level of uncontrolled enthusiasm” on occasion with 2 children and 2 dogs.
📣Post prompted by my 6 year old daughter’s gloriously unfiltered feedback (shaming?) while I was on a work call this week and she was here with her nana.
She said (in what can only be described as a highly judgy tone of voice): “mommy why are you so noisy all the time in here, I can hear you from my room, your work friends might need you to use your indoor voice”. She then gave me the quiet coyote hand signal (pic) and what amounted to her 1st grade version of a TED talk on how respectful voices create better learning spaces for people. 🤫
Well played Goose, well played.
