Job Seekers Series…Part 1: Ever-changing, inconsistent world of job titling
Maybe you’ve been unemployed for 12+ months and you’re looking for new resources to help broaden your search, or maybe you’re just dipping your toe into an early exploratory search. No matter your circumstance, spend 5 minutes on any job board and you’ll be inundated with titles that are inconsistent, ill-defined, and confusing.

Disclaimer: This take on a job search may sound icky
You are not just a Person in your job search you are also a Product. (This is true in consulting as well and maybe even more so)
Crafting your narrative and building your career story is crucial for authentic connection and alignment. This has to be truly you for real success.
I asked my daughter
To be clear though, if I ask her about really anything…every single time the answer will be Cats, in some form or another. But this time, I feel like I get it, I can put cats and work together.

Hate your job search?
Side note: “The call is coming from inside the house!” This is what I think of when I say “do it from inside the company”, every time. Childhood movie trauma runs deep y’all, bonus points if you know that OG movie!

Thought leaders actually need thoughts
The self-proclaimed "thought leader", a true LinkedIn classic. It’s bold, it’s confident, and it can be true or it can be completely hollow.

Let’s talk about getting closure
Layoffs involve real, actual, deep grief when you do that though, it can feel like a betrayal. Makes you want to scream in the rain up at the sky dramatically and ask “was it alll for nothing? All this work???” (That part might be the theater kid in me…)

A Day in the Life
Everyday is not this wild! But when business speeds up, sometimes you play catch-up. Fractional, solopreneur life means constant commitment. Is it sustainable? Probably not every day. But I’m energized by the work and wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Confession: When I was a recruiter, I ghosted people too
Sometimes unintentionally, sometimes I was too busy, sometimes because it’s easy to miss messages in LinkedIn if you get a lot, sometimes people sent me messages that were so presumptuous I couldn’t even imagine how to craft a response that didn’t sound highly irritated. Don’t even get me started on the “hey girl, want to chat” messages that plagued 15 years ago LinkedIn inboxes when people (men) forgot this wasn’t a dating app.

Ah, it’s here!! Novemcember…
In retail, Novemcember is a fever dream. Halloween’s barely packed up before holiday lights are everywhere, “Do you have this in stock?” questions are coming in hot, and once-a-year shoppers are back and they are armed with zero patience, a list of impossible demands, and the conviction that the rules don’t apply to them.

Al in Resumes is like CGI in movies.
We all know those movies where the CGI is so obvious it makes you groan (hear that Justice League & Green Lantern?). The same goes for poorly edited Al-generated Resumes and LinkedIn profiles. It's pretty easy to spot when an algorithm has taken over and the result is as subtle as a T-Rex smashing through Pride and Prejudice with a Michael Bay style 360 spin shot. (Phone rings as someone wants to option this movie immediately)
