A Day in the Life

Ever wondered what a jam-packed day in the life of a fractional people ops leader, solopreneur and executive coach looks like? (No? That’s cool; gonna share anyway )

Might be the busiest Thursday ever/distraction from election? It’s a fun example because it’s got a lil bit of everything I do all in one day: paid and free coaching, fractional consulting, speaking engagement, building the next big thing and a whole lot of conversations (my team can attest this is ACTUAL schedule on Thursday).

6:00 AM: children awake (whhyyy) Email check-in. Coffee!

6:15 - 7:40 AM: Drop-off duty. Take my girls to school and spend some time with them (mostly racing around because forgot field trip Cal Academy of Sciences that day- well done Mom!)

8:00-10:00 AM: Free introductory/ initial 20 min coaching sessions for four incredible leaders: a VP of Marketing (Outdoor), a C-suite exec in CPG, a VP of Stores (Retail), and a Tech Program Manager (SaaS). Each story, every goal—each session brings its own spark.

10:00 AM-12:00 PM: Client work with one of my fractional CPO clients, focusing on a major HRIS implementation. There’s nothing quite like connecting tech with people ops to streamline growth (said their ad, but also fun when things just don’t go right too)

12:00-2:00 PM: Onto fractional client number two: team check-ins, support for intense growth ahead of BFCM (hello, retail), and an onboarding plan for a new hire. Fast-paced but lots of human connection.

2 PM: Meet-up with my amazing partners as we prep for the January launch of our coaching cohort! We’re gearing up to support this first group of folks, and I can’t wait to see the impact we make.

2:30 PM: Kick-off meeting with a former CPG client who’s ready to reengage on people work. Excited to dive back in.

3:30-5:30 PM: Running a LinkedIn Optimization Zoom for the Mentor Me Collective, absolute fire event, stayed after to answer all things LinkedIn.

6:00-7:00 PM: Executive coaching session with a client needing severance negotiation support. Helping people advocate for themselves is one of the most fulfilling parts of my job.

Then… time with my kids. Always the best part of the day.

Late night: Wrapping up loose ends, answering emails, and tackling flow work.

Everyday is not this wild! But when business speeds up, sometimes you play catch-up. Fractional, solopreneur life means constant commitment. Is it sustainable? Probably not every day. But I’m energized by the work and wouldn’t trade it for anything.

I wish I’d believed I could do this years ago. And now, I get to help others build their own consulting and fractional businesses, too. And my team is growing and I could not do it without the folks in and supporting us!!!

This week I had people on the team meeting about where we are taking the different arms of this business WITHOUT ME THERE. Sounds weird but it was a real moment for this little coaching and consulting business and how it’s grown only 7 months in.
