Job searches are inherently selfish and self involved.
Job searches are inherently selfish and self involved. But what if you look up from writing about yourself for the hundredth time, experiencing the cycle of repeated rejection? Look around and ask what else? What would happen then?
Purpose.
Finding a place you use your skills, use your brain, keep yourself sharp, feel useful and unwasted during this time. Purpose is always undervalued.
So let’s ask these questions too…
Is there a small business owner in your friend group that needs some marketing or financial advice (I’ll answer for them as I am that person, the answer is always YES!)
Is there a non profit you believe in nearby?
Alumni association or local networking group you can go speak at?
Can you offer a company in the industry you are trying to pivot into some support?
Can you get involved in some board work, volunteer work?
I’m talking 5-15 hours a week. It’s a win win potentially!
Purpose fuels so many of us, it’s life giving and motivates our core. Reminds us why we do what we do.
So find somewhere to put some of your energy where you can feel good about what you know, how much you can contribute, who you can help.
And extra bonus if it helps you make a pivot, support your future career aspirations too!
People generally do not say no to having mid career, senior and executive level support!!!!
Can’t think of anywhere to do that? LinkedIn is a great place to ask if anyone needs some help, offer some free or super low cost services, barter.
Or you know, I am happy to be the business that puts your brain to work as you pass through unemployment or consider your next big move. I will take any brain that wants somewhere to contribute!
We are growing a delightful little team already. I have no illusions that I am good at every piece of running a successful business, my door / DMs are always open!
Truly though, a CTA offer for free 20 min coaching sessions last spring launched a massive life changing shift in my career and a full fledged business with multiple arms and several programs we are about to launch.
I just wanted to help some folks, see if doing this full time was a good idea after all the years doing it on the side.
It was. Your best idea will come too, but it’s more likely to if your brain is fully engaged.
In the meantime, find your space to contribute until you get to whatever your big thing is.
