Is LinkedIn Gaslighting You? (also, do we need an emoji for "feeling gaslit"?)
Is LinkedIn Gaslighting You? (also, do we need an emoji for "feeling gaslit"?)
You apply for a job, and the platform kindly reminds you that you’re applicant number 600... cool, fantastic. Then there’s the classic “preferred qualifications” section that reads more like a wishlist for a unicorn.
Aaaaand suddenly, you’re looking around, wondering where all these unicorn folks are hiding and feeling like maybe you’re not enough.
NOPE. LinkedIn’s algorithms don't get to decide your worth and create fear that you have never been good enough all along. Those so-called “perfect” candidates? They don’t really exist.
Let's be candid about this, any person who has ever hired a role knows that no one is ever a perfect match for a job description, there are always concessions made. It’s easy to feel deflated when you’re up against a giant faceless crowd of unicorns (feels like a horror movie in the making potentially), but that doesn’t mean you’re any less of a standout.
Here is your Friday reminder: You’re not defined by an app, an algorithm, or a competitive number. Adjust your perspective, and maybe your LinkedIn settings while you’re at it.
My (always unsolicited) advice? Step away from the scroll and job boards and network with REAL people. Genuine connections will remind you of your value and help you find the opportunities that actually fit you, not a mythical “perfect” candidate.
Trust yourself, don't let LinkedIn gaslight you, and keep pushing forward!
