Work uniforms are like a warm blanket and chicken soup. Boring, but comforting.
Work uniforms are like a warm blanket and chicken soup. Boring, but comforting.
Currently in my Steve Jobs black turtleneck era. I do most of my work on zoom in a black turtleneck sweater that I have maybe 10 of?
Having a uniform for me is about having simplicity, less distraction, and it’s also about armor.
I feel great in this sweater, it keeps me warm in the cold spot in my office because the air conditioning in our 70 year old house has two temperatures Antarctica or Death Valley. It works with the background, I can wear any earrings.
Occasionally I switch it up with a black or grey v neck when I’m feeling fresh.
Does this make me boring… sure does. Or as my 6 year old puts it …“Mommy you are soooooo boring” - but I’m not taking advice from a child who watched the same episode of Bluey 700 times for 3 years!!!
Where was I? Oh yes…I’m embracing my boring these days. Boring means less anxiety for me.
I spend zero time thinking about it before my sessions.
Do I love fashion and a great outfit… 10000%, I love absolutely everything about fashion and I obsess over people who pop into my zoom looking sharp as can be or fresh like a summer day in bright colors.
In my retail days and office days I spent hours and hours worrying if my outfit was good enough, cool enough, made me look slim enough. But I also remember at Starbucks putting that green apron on when I was 19 before a shift and it was like turning a switch on, I could take on the world.
Not feeling like I need an extra thing to think about right now. I like having zero brainpower devoted to that in this current phase of work. I want my energy to be spent on helping folks and thinking about next steps in growing the business.
But maybe will make it a challenge to show up in something bright weekly so I don’t get too boooooring.
Uniform dressing, love it or hate it?
